Image Color Picker — Instantly get Hex, RGB & HSL from any image

Use our Image Color Picker to get HEX color from image, get RGB color from image, and extract precise hsl color from image values. Drag & drop, paste, or upload an image and click or tap any pixel to reveal HEX, RGB and HSL values — plus contrast scores and luminance to help you choose accessible color combinations for web, mobile, and print.

How it works

Pick colors from your images — accurately and instantly

Our color picker tool returns exact color values for any pixel you click. Hover over your image to preview colors in a magnifier, then click (or tap) to lock a selection. The tool converts raw pixel data into HEX, RGB and HSL, shows coordinates and luminance, and calculates contrast ratios against white and black if you require WCAG-friendly color decisions.

  • Upload, drag & drop, or paste images (JPEG, PNG, WEBP and other common formats).
  • Preview colors live as you move the cursor magnifier over the image.
  • Copy HEX, RGB or HSL with a single click. Clicked colors will be saved in the ‘saved colors’ palette.
  • Download an image of your color to produce a PNG swatch image that you can keep or share.

How to use

How to use the Image Color Picker

Follow these steps to extract colors quickly and accurately. This guide works for both desktop and mobile versions.

  1. Choose an image: Click the upload area or drag & drop the original image. For best accuracy avoid highly compressed exports.
  2. Preview with the magnifier: Move your cursor or touch the image to see a magnified preview and live color readout (HEX & RGB). Use the magnifier to place the cursor precisely on the pixel you want to choose to sample.
  3. Tap or click to lock it in: Lock the selection by clicking (on desktop) or releasing your finger (on mobile) once you are hovering over the color you want. Locked results show HEX, RGB, HSL and more in the ‘picked color’ section.
  4. Copy or save: Use the copy buttons to copy a HEX (e.g. #EDE7FF) or RGB (rgb(237,231,255)). Save the color to your palette for reuse or export a PNG image file for sharing.

Mobile tip: hold down on the screen and drag the magnifier to preview, then lift your finger off the screen to lock in the current color.

Tips & FAQ

Common questions about the color picker tool

FAQ – Can I use any type of image? Yes – we recommend original, high-resolution images for pixel-accurate sampling. Screenshots or compressed exports may shift pixel values and produce slightly different HEX/RGB results. We support almost all image file types for upload.

FAQ — Can I get RGB from image on mobile? Yes; touch and hold to preview the colors with the magnifier and lift your finger to lock the color, then copy HEX or RGB just like on desktop.

FAQ — Is the sampling client-side? Yes, the sampling runs client-side in your browser. This means colors are extracted locally on your device without uploading the image to a server. We cannot see your images and do not store them.
